Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

1. Overview

Melvo ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. By using Melvo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

Account data: email address, name (optional), hashed password, OAuth provider identifiers (Google, GitHub, Discord).

Song identification data: song title, artist, album, cover art URL, timestamps of identifications, and links to streaming platforms. We do not record or store your audio.

Spotify integration data: Spotify access tokens, refresh tokens, and playlist identifiers — stored encrypted and used solely to add songs to your Melvo playlist.

Usage data: number of identifications per month, plan type, identification source (manual/auto).

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve the song identification service
  • To sync identified songs with your Spotify account (if connected)
  • To enforce plan limits and process payments via Stripe
  • To send transactional emails (identification results, password reset)
  • To send optional product update emails (with your consent)
We do not sell your data to third parties.

4. Audio Processing

The Melvo Windows agent captures short audio samples from your system audio (typically 5–15 seconds) and sends them to our identification API (AudD). Audio samples are not stored — they are processed in real-time and immediately discarded. Only the resulting song metadata is saved to your account.

5. Third-Party Services

  • AudD — music recognition API; receives audio samples
  • Spotify — playlist sync; receives OAuth tokens with your consent
  • Genius — lyrics display; receives song title and artist queries
  • Stripe — payment processing; we do not store card details
  • Resend — transactional email delivery

6. Data Retention

Your song history and account data are retained as long as your account is active. You can delete individual songs from your history at any time, or delete your entire account from the Account settings page, which permanently removes all associated data.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

Melvo uses browser localStorage to store your authentication token and app preferences (such as onboarding completion). We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:
  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Export your song history
  • Correct inaccurate information in your account
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Withdraw consent for optional emails at any time
To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@melvo.app or use the settings in your Account page.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and encrypted OAuth tokens. No system is completely secure; in the event of a breach, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.

10. Children

Melvo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
